Wax Recommendations - Seely Hills Classic / Pre-Loppet - Gear West

 

We have been busy testing the new fluor-free waxes this early winter, if you are looking for a recommendation for this weekend’s races, see below. We have tested waxes from Swix, Rex, Vauhti, Rode, and Start, among others, below are some recommendations that will make your skis fast in these fluor-free times.

Seeley Hills Classic

Birkie Trailhead, Telemark Resort

Weather-

Friday Night - Snow. Patchy blowing snow before 1AM.  Low around 9. Blustery with a north wind 15 to 20 mph. New snow accumulation 1-3 inches.

Saturday - Snow likely, mainly before 7AM. Patchy blowing snow between 7AM and 9AM.  High near 13. New snow accumulation of 1 inch possible.


Recommendations-

Base – Swix Marathon Powder or Swix Marathon Block

Paraffin – Start Green, Rode R20 (add Toko X-Cold or Rode GL-0 to harden these waxes) Swix TSP5

Structure – LC0, LC2 stone grind with no additional hand structure

Kick Binder – Toko Green Base Binder

Kick – race hardwax layers to try – Rode Green, Rode Multi Blue, Guru Green, Swix VP30

Structure – LC0, LC2 grind with no additional hand structure


Pre-Loppet

Trailhead, Wirth Park

Weather-

Saturday Night - Snow showers likely. Cloudy, with a low around 23. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of around an inch possible.

Sunday - A 50 percent chance of snow showers. Cloudy, with a high near 2. Northwest wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.


Recommendation –

Base Layer – Swix Marathon Powder or Swix Marathon block

Paraffin – Start Green, Rode R20 (add Toko X-Cold or Rode GL-0 to harden these waxes) Swix TSP5

Structure Skate – LZ0, LZ2 stonegrind, no additional hand structure
