Expanding Our Support for the Nordic Community
It’s been nearly 34 years since Gear West first welcomed customers through our doors. As another ski season begins, we’re excited— and proud — to continue supporting the Nordic community that has meant so much to us over the decades.
This year, we’re especially excited to expand our involvement with Birkie events as the Presenting Sponsor of the Seeley Hills Classic (website). We hope to see many of you there on January 10.
We’re also thrilled to cheer on Alayna Sonnesyn, four-time Birkie champion, and Zak Ketterson as they compete on the World Cup — both athletes are supported by Gear West and have deep Upper Midwest roots. Our fingers are crossed that Zak and Alayna make the U.S. Olympic team!
The Nordic community is a rich one, defined by camaraderie that spans novices and elite athletes alike. You’ve seen it yourself: on local ski trails, at community events like the Luminary Loppet, at high school races, and, of course, at the American Birkebeiner. It’s a culture built on shared effort, encouragement, and a love for being outdoors in winter.
Supporting this community has always been a core part of the Gear West ethos — through time, expertise, and financial contributions. This season, that support more broadly includes:
-
Helping kids learn to ski through the Loppet Foundation
-
Supporting high school athletes via our High School Team Dividend Program and Junior National wax support
-
Continuing our long-standing support of adult racers, the American Birkebeiner, and Ski de She
Finally, we’re also proud to support flexible schedules that allow five Gear West team members to coach local Nordic teams, giving back directly on the trails.
The Nordic community is truly special. We value it, support it, and thank you for supporting us.
