We deal with so many different types of footwear here at Gear West. Cycling shoes, running shoes, nordic skiing boots, alpine skiing boots, hiking boots, and so on. Each type of footwear has a specific purpose and they all fit differently. Stiff, flexible, wide, narrow, some arch, no arch. It’s often extremely difficult to find the one boot or shoe that is the perfect marriage for your, extremely individual, foot. Now take that foot of yours, which is the only one of its kind, put it into a boot or shoe and ask it to run, jump, pedal, skate, ski, bend and flex. The odds are stacked against you that you’re going to find the one magical shoe that fits, bends, twists and supports the way that your foot needs.

Examples of common issues we hear:

  • “The boot fits great, but after skiing for an hour man does my arch cramp up”
  • “Nothing hurts when I’m biking, but after a while I lose feeling in my toes. They just go numb”
  • “I’ve tried a few different off the shelf inserts but I can’t get rid of this pain right in the middle of my foot”
  • “My left foot is kind of different from my right, so I have a hard time finding the perfect pair. One foot is going to suffer”
  • “I get this hot spot right on the back of my heal”

The shoe industry didn’t use your specific foot when they designed their shoes and inserts but that doesn’t mean you have to suffer. Your athletic footwear should feel great, no matter what you’re doing and how long you’re doing it!

The custom insert solution

Imagine having your ski boot or bike shoe perfectly molded so that it’s a mirror image of your feet. Having better balance, power transfer, and support. Ditching those hot spots and complaining arches. This is what a custom insole will do for you.

custom-insole-grind.jpgAt Gear West our fitters use industry leading systems to create a mirror image, or negative, of your feet. Once the negative is created we then heat and mold a supportive insert into that negative. The insert is then trimmed and posted so that it fits, supports, and bends the way your foot should. The final product is the magical key that connects you to your footwear giving you increased comfort, better alignment, improved power transfer, and better balance.

The whole custom fitting process is affordable and takes one to two hours start to finish. You’ll walk out the door that day with your new inserts ready to take on the world.

We're here and happy to help!
