The Buckhorn Clothing Co is now open in Long Lake! Located just west of
Wayzata, the Buckhorn now joins the two Gear West stores, xc ski/run/soccer and
bike/triathlon, on what once was the Rettingers gas station land.
The Buckhorn features quality outdoor lifestyle clothing in an old converted Citgo
Convenience Store! The collaboration of the creativity of Jan Guenther and Brian Knutson
(of Gear West, the Twin Cities premier Nordic Ski and Run Shop), and Bill Damberg, (25
years of retailing experience in Lake Superiors Apostle Islands region); the
Buckhorn Clothing Co. offers a ever varying mix or casual clothing with an outdoor
heritage. Next to the pellet burning stove and the ever patient yellow lab is clothing
from Patagonia, Arcteryx, Dale of Norway, Smartwool and Ibex. Womens casual
sportswear comes from Lole and Carve, to name a few. Unique, different and extremely
functional are the terms that I like to use when describing the clothing we
carry
states Bill Damberg. Our goal is to offer the best fitting, best
looking clothing and outerwear that you just cant find everywhere. If we dont
believe in the product, we dont sell it
The key to making a shop work is making it a little different---and The Buckhorn is indeed
unique. When folks first walk in, we hope they feel at home and relaxed. They shop
was created out of an old service station, which had been, updated, into a
convenience store. We gutted the building down to the bare concrete walls; even
removing the ceramic tile flooring, said Damberg. The result is a warm wood paneled
space with an acid stained floor, a wood burning stove, an eclectic mix of display pieces,
furniture, and wonderfully fitting clothes and accessories!
As for the focus: the clothing, Damberg says that he strives to work with companies that
are pushing the envelope as far as sustainability and ecologically correct practices.
But the clothes have to fit, and they have to work, he says. We want
this to be YOUR shop. If you are not seeing what you want, let us know. Stop
in and look at what we are offering; we think you will be impressed.
As for the name; Well, The Buckhorn, was a restaurant, bar, motel, bowling alley and
tourist shop here in Long Lake, from the 40s through the 70s explains
Damberg. A local institution, known for its great hospitality; the name seemed to
fit
Its what we are about: Offering great products in a warm, friendly
comfortable setting
